I have no option of using that account with plus even though it's linked to a google account that CAN access plus. Hence I have to manually switch accounts and can't actually use the share links.

Re: Why I don’t share on Google+ much

I don't quite understand: you need a Twitter account and Facebook account to use those widgets too?

Re: Why I don’t share on Google+ much

Same as me. My domain is a Google Apps for Domains account and I can't use G+ with it. Creating unnecessary roadblocks will stunt adoption.

Re: Google Sucks at Authentication UX

I agree. I have Google apps for two domains and then my personal one. We recently transitioned to the new account infrastructure. How they handle the UX is not working for me. Very difficult to keep signed into the correct account. Have to tie the GA, Voice, Adwords, and other stuff to my personal email so I can keep that open. Never mind that I used to be able to have my email open with the support email for the same domain - can't anymore. Just easier to switch between browsers rather then accounts.

Re: Google Sucks at Authentication UX

It is frustrating how much stuff breaks just because Google doesn't have Profiles (which no one cares about anyway) working for Google Apps customers yet.

Stephen M. It used to take a lot more money and manpower to install and operate the equipment required.

People will still do investigating and journalism. Those are the shows that will get the audience and regular positive feedback that leads to more shows.

Re: French Fries on Sandwiches are Cool & Other Thoughts

"If you can stream internet radio coast to coast why do we fund public broadcasting anymore?" You still have to pay for investigating, writing and producing the stories! I don't want stories solely created by Joe Schmoe...I want quality content and I find that in public broadcasting. Public broadcasting availability on the internet rocks, BTW.

Re: French Fries on Sandwiches are Cool & Other Thoughts

But it used to be heavily invested in moving the country forward... with good success. My app is quite heavy and takes around 15 secs to load, so i thought if i can add another splash image while loading an app. but not sure how to do that. I am eagerly looking for some solution. Could you please provide any suggetion that how can I add 2/3 splash images by giving time duration. Thanks..

Re: Don’t forget to set up your Facebook page ASAP

Hmm, sounds like I should have written up a post on exactly this a year ago. :) In the end, I chose to use the open graph experience centered around my own URLs (both jpsblog and jpmovies) as the keys rather than creating and managing a page just because I wasn't interested in managing a page. I wanted the focus to remain on the sites, facebook was just a tool to that end.

But yeah, the features, experience, and even community around facebook pages "appears" to share space with the open graph functionality, but there is just a "not quite" aspect to it all. One other thing that still does not work exactly correctly is that the "likes" of individual articles on a site do not migrate to the stories which appear on the facebook "page" for the whole site. I can see on facebook the number of impressions for each article, but likes say zero in facebook itself, while they contain the correct number when I look at the widget on my site.

Not to mention that getting EXACTLY all the ids in the right place and stories / blog posts within a site working just the right way is a pain in the @#$. (Almost as if its ripe for some content management company to start offering integrated open-graph experiences.... hmmm.)

In the end , I just ended up augmenting my graphiti templates using the built in variables to create the proper experience, but there was LOTS of trial and error involved since their (fb open graph) help files / tutorials were terrible a year ago.

J.P. Like you I realized it was more fun playing them than writing the animation and graphic routines.

Funny that I also had POS experience. Radiant Systems, one of the places I interned at, wrote them for Tri-Con restaurants & some movie theater chains. I wrote software that kept track of updates to the system being distributed over the internet.

Side note... there has to be a place in the world for a social connected POS system.

Re: How I learned the Value of Meaningful Work

I had kinda the reverse experience: I wrote and distributed shareware games on BBS's in my early teens, since I was also into gaming and programming and what not. I also lacked a real revenue model :) I learned that writing and testing games can be harsh, unrewarding work, and not as much fun as just *playing* them. So while a lot of my fellow students in college were focused on gaming and other 'glamorous' careers, I focused on doing stuff that would add value to businesses. I wrote a point-of-sale system for my family's pizza shop and helped redesign the kitchen layout. I improved efficiency and accuracy in immediate and tangible ways, and I then knew that's what I wanted to do with my career.
